横振り刺繍とは
ミシンの針を左右に振りながら
布の上に自由に刺繍を描いていく
群馬県桐生市を代表する手仕事のひとつです。
機械による均一な刺繍とは異なり
針の振り幅や速度、糸の重なりによって
一針ごとに異なる表情が生まれる。
そこには、作家の感覚と経験
そして手仕事ならではの迫力があります。

Yokofuri Embroidery (Yokofuri Shishu) is a premier traditional craft from Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, where artisans freely draw intricate embroidered patterns directly onto fabric by manually controlling the side-to-side swing of a sewing machine needle.
Unlike uniform, mass-produced machine embroidery, every single stitch acquires a unique, one-of-a-kind texture and depth through subtle adjustments in needle width, stitching speed, and thread layering.
Each masterpiece embodies the artist’s raw intuition, decades of refined experience, and the captivating, high-impact force that only authentic human craftsmanship can deliver.
